Information Request

This Master’s degree is aimed at Local Authorities Professionals, Mayors, Bachelor’s in Municipal Management and other areas of local intervention, and all those who need to deepen their knowledge in management and administration or service quality management.

SKILLS TO BE DEVELOPED

The Master's Degree in Municipal Management course intends to provide its students with the skills to: analyze and interpret the organization of the municipality in light of the theoretical contributions of the various sciences, namely in the fields of law, urban planning, information systems, finances, quality assurance, human resources, marketing, etc; base the decision-making process on research and management innovation procedures; manage, coordinate and streamline action programs within the scope of the municipality's competences; establish interaction programs with agents in the territory and with the central administration; advise the members of the executive and decision-making bodies of the municipality.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

This course seeks to achieve the following objectives: to qualify and specialize Higher Technicians in the exercise of management and/or administrative functions in municipalities. The training provided is advanced and cuts across the fields related to management in local governments, and aims to provide complementary and comprehensive management knowledge and skills.

MAIN EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The course offers a solid and diversified multidisciplinary training. In particular, it prepares employees for an activity of increasing technical and social importance, given the growing number of powers and duties of municipalities. Thus, this course’s graduates may work in: municipalities and municipal companies; central administration entities pertaining to municipalities; consulting firms; local associations (IPSS, NGOs) close to municipalities.

ACCESS REQUIREMENTS

The Access Regime for International Students is aimed at all applicants who do not have Portuguese nationality. This regime does not apply to the students who: are a European Union Member state national or, despite not being a Member state national, have continuously been living in Portugal for more than two years.

Admission through this regime is subject to:

  • Verification of academic qualifications through: Document proof and a written exam on the subjects of the access exams required for the study cycle – in accordance with the application guide of the general regime.
  • Verification of language knowledge through document proof.
  • The written exam consists of a written test of knowledge on the language in which the study cycle is taught. For both types of verification, an interview will always be conducted.

  • Curriculum Vitae;
  • Passport;
  • Transcript of Records from the country of origin or a diploma that attests the successful completion of an educational program and entitles the student to apply for higher education in the country where those certificates were issued;
  • Portuguese secondary education diploma or legally equivalent qualification;
  • Documentary proof for the verification of the academic qualifications (when applicable)
  • Documentary proof for the verification of language knowledge (when applicable)

PREREQUISITES

Professionals from Local Authorities, Municipal Management graduates and other areas of local intervention, Management graduates or professionals in the field of management.
